Indian Army lost the reputation, values and ethos.

Perhaps this was the best gift we could offer to the most powerful man on earth on the eve of Deewali as the US president Mr. Barak Obama is visiting India in the same city from where a new scam is brought to the notice of people of India.

This is not new news if you know that India, as the 87th standing nation corrupt free nation in the “Transparency International report; has further slipped 3 placed below from last year. But news may that the belief of a common man has entire shaken on the involvement of the top brasses of Indian army and Navy in the “Adarsh Scam (sorry….Housing) Society. Scams after scam have beyond the point proven that today Indian army has become the most corrupt organisation in India. A million plus strong and second largest in number only behind to China, the organisation has fallen to the generals who did not speared their own martyrs who lost their lives for a cause known as “nation first” and for a cause that their generals could live a comfortable lives. And our generals did respond this way. They occupied the flats which were meant for the widows of those martyrs.

What a shame for ex general Deepak Kapoor and N C Vij; former Navy chief Admiral Madhavendra Singh and Vice-Chief Gen Shantnu Choudhary? The nation wants to see into those eyes hidden behind those Ray-Bans, and will they come out from their hideout?

Before going behind these chiefs, let the story be unfolded.

It is said that  Army had been in possession of the prime 6,500 Sq meter plot of this land for more than 50 years when in year 2003, Adarsh Society started to build one apartment for the wodows of Kargil martyrs in Kolaba area of Mumbai which is near to Indian army and Navy establishment.  The building which was meant to be a six-storey structure which later got converted into a 100-metre-tall building of 31-storey. As of today this high-rise apartment has 104 members including senior army commanders, a former environment minister, legislators and state bureaucrats, top army and Navy officers. Not only those; some relatives of Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chavan also being beneficiaries, it has emerged.

Not Mother of all scam for another scam is in pipeline:
2G spectrum but this photo is of 18 Nov 10 by me.
It is believed construction of the building violated the stringent Mumbai Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) norms. Also, under the Works of Defence Act, 1903, any private or public development, which falls within 1,000 meters of any defense (Army , Navy, Air Force) establishment, it  must get a no objection certificate from the defense ministry.

The strange part with the ‘Adarsh housing society’ is that all  the 103 members society will have to pay only 10%, getting 90% discount and they can sell these flats with the profits they make. This seems strange because the area where the high rise apartment has been built falls in the most coveted place of Mumbai. At present the land rate in Cuff parade area of Mumbai are around 60,000 per square feet where this society is offering 90% discount. The society member were told to pay only 60 Lakh for a flat of 1000 Sq feet area. The doubt at the beginning is that; was it possible for an army man who earns between 20,000 to 75,000 per month could even pay those 60 Lakhs?

As the documents I saw in Timesnow TV, the society was meant for the construction of apartments for Kargil heros and the Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan has denied that the Adarsh housing society land was meant for Kargil martyrs. What a betrayal for those men in uniform who died in the Kargil war ? He himself as the capacity of a revenue minister then issued a clearance letter to Adarsh Housing Cooperative Society.

Had he been a man of values, he would had tendered his resignation, though now he says he is willing to vacate his post after his meeting with Congress party chief Sonia Gandhi and Defense Minister AK Antony. Currently  two-member Congress committee including AK Antony and Finance Minister of India Pranab Mukherjee will review the Adarsh Society scam and likely to submit its report by Sunday to Congress chief Mrs. Sonia Gandhi.

Now when the scam is exposed, the ex chiefs of armed forces are willing to return the flats. Those naturally had not courage to come up and defend their positions for which they issued one statement that they were unaware that those flats were meant for Kargilheros!

Is someone there to buy their argement? Firstly, were they naïve enough to know what the mess was cooking? Secondly; if they were naive enough, were they deserving enough candidate to be at the position of the commander of 1200000 army men? It is unanswerable question that what else they had done when they were in their tenure as the chiefs considering that India spend 15% budget of its GDP on defense where a large sum of money in on the disposal of these chiefs, and it is the money of those people who pay tax only to know that some guy in uniform is having his bounty over their money?

How many scams are yet to be exposed, I wonder. Coffin case, CSD canteen liquor case, dry rations case, Sukna land case, fake encounter case, barak Missile Scandal, Gorshkov deal, Navy war room leak, defence recruitment paper leak and now this Adarsh scam. General Kariappa left us at right time I suppose for; had he been alive he could have faced any daunting task other than that of eradicating the corruption in Indian army.
Time has come that Indian Army and navy should be seen as the like of any other ordinary organization whose boss does not bother for the value and history of  the same except his personal gains. We could had not have won the wars of 1962,1971 with the chiefs  like these.  Who knows if we had won 1965? Or may be casualty of Kargil could be minimized.

If the generals are busy in finding the way to make their own booty who is going to care for the borders of nation? This question which every Indian should ask to himself and this is the demand of the situation at present. The danger is clear and present.
